A fiery comment on a recent post brings up a very contentious moral question: is throwing streamers and other non-harmful objects onto the pitch an acceptable show of team spirit? As I recall, no Union fans did any such thing at the home opener. Other cities weren’t quite so restrained- a week later we all witnessed Sebastien Le Toux get practically TP’d by Canadian projectiles during an attempt at a corner in Toronto. Talk about red tape. Since then, it seems…

I’ve always had a problem with math, ever since I was a kid. In 3rd grade, I was constantly being duped by the math whizzes: getting cheated out of lunch money, being lied to about what time it was (damn analog clocks), trading a “meter” of my precious fruit roll-up for the square root of the class hamster, etc. While many of these children went on to found Lehman Brothers, I became a sports blogger. …

Saturday’s matchup between your Philadelphia Union and D.C. United proved to be both historic and celebratory for the Philadelphia area. It was a game marked by strong mid-field play, hard challenges, and exceptional team work. Sebastien Le Toux is our deadly striker…As the previous poster noted,Le Toux was the real star of the show last night. Three chances came his way and he finished them all off. The range of quality in the finishing was impressive: one header, one cool finish in the far corner, and a free kick masterpiece. Le Toux is getting all the headlines today, as he should. Not to be forgotten…The 10 other dudes out there…

Hell yeah! We need a new word- one that describes what you feel when fireworks are exploding over the Linc and the Union squad is scrambling towards the supporter’s section, arms raised, echoing the screams of triumph coming from thousands of blue-clad maniacs. Whatever that word is, I can’t say it. Neither can the rest of the crowd that cheered our boys on to victory tonight. Our throats are too sore, our voices raspy and…

Photo by jasonb42882 April 10th, 2010 will be a day of epic proportions. For the first time, the Philadelphia Union will kick off at home, in the very city whose love impregnated the MLS with its mighty seed. Now that our club is born (and smacked and swaddled in Seattle), it’s time to light the cigars and bring the Union home with some good old-fashioned FANFARE. To that end, preceding the opener will be two…
