Andrew Jacobson: Union No More

Andrew Jacobson- he did a fine job during the minutes he was given, acting as a good go-to substitution in what we all agree is one very crowded midfield. Essentially, one would have to be pretty stellar to make it as a Union midfielder in 2011, so it’s no great blow to the ego to be let go. At least he can tell himself that. And he gets his own post, too- not just a…

Seitz Drafted; Online Poll Loses Relevance

One controversy is over- Chris Seitz is no longer a member of the Philadelphia Union. With their 9th pick in the Re-Entry Draft (a fun process from MLS that forces teams to give players new, better contracts or expose them to drafting), Seitz was nabbed by the Seattle Sounders, only to be used as a bargaining chip. Seattle immediately traded Seitz to FC Dallas in exchange for an amateur draft pick. After being passed around like a cheap…

Toux Bad

In what is probably the second worst miscarriage of justice involving both soccer and a French person, Sebastien Le Toux has been left off of the short list for MLS MVP. Edson Buddle of the LA Galaxy, David Ferreira of FC Dallas, and Chris Wondolowski the of San Jose Earthquakes are the final candidates. Even with our obvious pro-Union bias, no one here expected Le Toux to take the title. But to be left out of the…

Houston v. Philadelphia Game Preview

This Saturday, the Union should focus on one thing and one thing only: momentum. That’s the name of the game. Our squad is coming off of a hard fought tie against a tough FC Dallas team and needs to build on that momentum. If I were in Coach Nowak’s shoes this week, I would be sticking to the momentum narrative and keep my team focused on playing hard. If this team is able to put together a full…

FANPOST: Bruno Guarda Needs a Lesson in Class

Photo: FCDallas.com Reasonably sober sources confirm: on Saturday, FC Dallas player Bruno Guarda was witnessed (by every SoB who wasn’t standing in line at a urinal) making obscene gestures, i.e. bird-flipping, at the supporter’s section, and deliberately kicking a ball into the stands. Ironically, Guarda was angry because he had accidentally kicked a ball into the stands earlier, and had some trouble getting it back. Guarda’s logic aside, we are all outraged at such ridiculous and…

We’re sure you’ve heard- devotees to Philly Union Talk, as well as to various other (lesser) sources of Union updates, will surely be well aware of what occurred in the 93rd minute of yesterday’s match against FC Dallas. But there’s more to the story than the heroic actions of a certain Congolese teenager, as reports indicate that there were roughly 92 other minutes during which people were playing soccer that day. As usual, the Union…

My Main Man Mwanga!!

My main man Mwanga smashed, and I mean smashed, the equalizer in with almost the last kick of the game. If he had not, it would have been another sickening defeat. Once again the Union outplayed their opponent, but this week they actually have something to show for it: a precious point. Wins are better than draws, but this draw felt like a win. The Eastern Conference of MLS is very tight. A single point may not seem like…
